Overview How we helped Outcomes acheived

Mater Misericordiae Ltd (Mater) is a Catholic, mission-based not-for-profit organisation providing healthcare, research, and education services to both public and private sectors. Mater’s long-term strategy focuses on sustainably growing its suite of healthcare services to benefit the broader community.

In June 2020, Mater brought together three regional ministries — North, South-East, and Central Queensland — under one entity. As part of this integration, a suite of operational and investment plans was developed to align resources and drive efficiencies across the combined organisation.

To support this transition, Mater needed a robust, dynamic financial model to assess the financial impact of various scenarios and provide the Board with confidence to make informed strategic decisions.

How we helped

Objectives

The engagement aimed to:

  • Align the financial outcomes of operational and investment plans under development
  • Provide the Board with confidence that resources were available to achieve Mater’s strategy
  • Identify opportunities for performance improvement using industry benchmarks
Streamline existing finance processes, including the annual budget build

Our role

We partnered with Mater to design, build, and validate a comprehensive financial model.

Over a three-month period, we worked closely with Mater’s financial, operational, and technical teams to:

  • Test and validate assumptions underpinning future plans
  • Model various investment and operational scenarios
  • Provide insights to support strategic decision-making and long-term planning

Outcomes acheived

At the completion of our engagement, Mater was equipped with:

  • A robust long-term financial model to support strategic planning and resource allocation
  • A recommended governance structure to embed financial discipline into decision-making
  • Knowledge transfer to build internal capability within finance and business partnering teams

This work gave Mater a strong financial foundation to guide sustainable growth and deliver on its mission to provide high-quality, community-focused healthcare.
