The inaugural Allegro Funds & TMA Turnaround Case Competition was held in September 2021, with over 100 individual participants from 30 firms across Australia.

A KordaMentha-led team was today announced as the competition winner at the Turnaround Management Association (TMA) Australia’s annual national conference.

KordaMentha Associate Director Steven Cunningham led the team, joined by Dylan Genau and Sophia Paikopolous, also of KordaMentha, Alex Green of River Capital and Sunny Joshi of ANZ.

Teams assessed a hypothetical scenario involving the potential investment in a listed entity during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020. Participants were required to prepare a 10-page pitch document outlining their:

  • deal structure, valuation and returns
  • deal tactics and stakeholder strategy
  • turnaround plan
  • recommendation of whether an investment in the listed entity should be pursued.

Seven teams progressed to the finals, presenting their investment theses and turnaround strategies to an esteemed panel of industry experts.

The case study required significant collaboration between team members. Combining the unique skills and expertise of KordaMentha, River Capital and ANZ delivered a more robust and innovative investment strategy and turnaround plan to take out the win. We look forward to continuing to foster collaboration with our industry peers.

We would like to thank Allegro Funds and TMA for the opportunity to participate in this incredible initiative and congratulate all other teams involved.
