Friday, 11 November 2022 KordaMentha & 333 Capital-led team announced as winners of the 2022 Allegro Funds & TMA Case Competition. The competition is in its second year, with results announced yesterday at the Turnaround Management Association (TMA) Australia’s annual national conference. The winning team included Christina Ruiz (KordaMentha), Jordan Galante (KordaMentha), Stewart Madsen (333 Capital) and Henry Cunningham (on sabbatical). Multidisciplinary teams assessed a hypothetical investment scenario from the perspective of a private equity firm. This year’s case focused on an ASX listed company that owns and operates numerous food franchises across Australia. Participants prepared a 10-page investment committee pitch outlining their: Investment thesis, investment structure and valuation. Investment plans and returns. Deal tactics and stakeholder strategy. Recommendation of whether to pursue the investment and, if so, on what terms. From 60 individual participants in this year’s competition, five teams progressed to the final round and presented to an esteemed panel of industry experts for judging. With a diverse skills mix, the team provided performance improvement, capital investments, deal tactics, restructuring and organisational turnaround insights. The competition afforded an exciting opportunity for inter-disciplinary collaboration, encouraging the team to devise innovative and tailored solutions to take out the win. We congratulate all other teams on their submissions and thank Allegro Funds and TMA Australia for making this both a challenging and rewarding experience.
