KordaMentha staff are actively engaged in giving back to their communities through a range of sports and charity commitments. Chief among these is the Chain Reaction Challenge Foundation, which was founded in 2007 by KordaMentha Real Estate partner, Berrick Wilson.
Chain Reaction is a series of gruelling 1000 plus kilometre cycling events held across Australia and New Zealand, designed for business executives looking to challenge themselves physically and mentally while raising much needed funds for children’s charities.
KordaMentha Partner, Tom Davis is one of the foundation’s biggest supporters, having completed his 10th ride in 2024. “There is an enormous sense of self-satisfaction after completing a ride. Working together as a team to overcome the mental and physical challenge is immensely rewarding and has allowed me to build some lifelong friendships in the process.” But Tom’s true motivations for participating go beyond the challenge itself. “What gave me perspective was having a healthy child then coming to Chain Reaction and hearing the stories of people that aren't so fortunate. That’s what really drives my motivation to participate every year.”
When Berrick Wilson’s daughter, Milla, was only two days old, she was rushed to hospital with a sudden brain haemorrhage and spent a number of weeks at the Newborn Intensive Care Unit at the Monash Medical Centre. Milla went on to make a full recovery. However, during those fretful nights at the Intensive Care Unit, Berrick vowed to turn one of the worst experiences of his family’s life into something positive. “We went from the euphoria of being new parents to dealing with a very difficult situation. Off the back of that, I decided I wanted to do something to make a difference and the Chain Reaction Challenge Foundation was born.”
More than 15 years after Berrick began the Chain Reaction Challenge, it has bloomed into one of the most successful corporate charity rides in Australia.
KordaMentha has played a vital role in its success, with staff from across the nation supporting the various challenges every year and helping the Chain Reaction Challenge Foundation raise more than $43million for sick children.
