Thursday, 18 May 2023 KordaMentha is pleased to announce the appointment of Rob Watson as a Forensic Partner in the firm’s Singapore office. Singapore is a strategically important part of KordaMentha’s practice, offering a strong regional market for forensic services and access to clients involved in complex cross-jurisdictional matters. Rob Watson’s appointment to the region demonstrates positive steps in the firm’s strategy to increase its forensic market position in Singapore and South-East Asia, while allowing the practice to position for further growth. Mr Watson has vast experience investigating fraud and financial crime, including cases involving high-profile, sensitive commercial fraud and international money laundering across Australia and Singapore, and internal fraud and international sanction breaches in the oil, gas and mining industry in Australia, Singapore, Japan and Dubai. He joins KordaMentha after three years at BHP, where he was most recently the Manager Response and Investigations – Australia and Asia. Partner and Forensic Investigations Leader, Matthew Fleming, highlighted the opportunity Rob’s appointment affords in growing the team’s investigations capabilities in Singapore and South-East Asia. “Rob’s decades of experience with investigations will further bolster our team of forensic specialists across the region,” Mr Fleming said. Head of the firm’s Singapore office, Cameron Duncan, said Mr Watson’s appointment aligned with the forensic team’s strategic focus. “Given his background and career progression, Rob’s client relationships are extensive in both Australia and South-East Asia. With impressive leadership experience in his field, Rob will perform an important role in helping us to achieve further growth.” Prior to BHP, Mr Watson established the South-East Asia investigations practice at Deloitte Indonesia where he worked for two years. He then transferred to the Deloitte Asia-Pacific practice in Singapore in 2017 as Asia-Pacific Director of Forensic Investigations, Financial Crime and Misconduct. He was previously a Detective Sergeant attached to the elite Serious and Organised Crime Directorate of the New South Wales Police Force. A recognised, influential and awarded investigations manager, he was persistently called upon by senior management and peers to lead high-profile, sensitive fraud and corruption investigations. Mr Watson holds a Bachelor of Investigations – Law and Justice, and an Advanced Diploma of Public Safety (Investigations), both from Charles Sturt University. He is a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. Media contact Tim Fogarty | [email protected] | +61 400 179 075.
