KordaMentha Forensic’s Book Launch - Expert Evidence: Recent Cases

Over the last year, staff at KordaMentha Forensic reviewed around 1,000 recent cases from the Australian courts relating to principles of expert evidence and emerging trends in this area of the law. Of these, the 30 most interesting were selected to form the basis of 'Expert Evidence: Recent Cases', a recent hard-cover publication of KordaMentha Forensic.

For each case, the authors offer a brief summary of the facts and issues, along with their views on its relevance to the development of expert evidence in Australian law and practice. In addition, the book contains a series of articles discussing emerging trends in such areas as expert conclaves and ‘hot-tubbing’, immunity of expert witnesses, and the rules of expert evidence in Singapore.
 
In July, KordaMentha held book launch events in our Sydney and Melbourne offices. Attended by a host of guests from the legal field, these events were a great opportunity to discuss the issues raised in the book, from the perspective of expert witnesses, legal professionals, and members of the judiciary. Prominent barristers Hugh Selby and Dr Ian Freckelton QC gave their take on the evolution of the role of expert evidence in its various forms, at the Sydney and Melbourne events respectively. A similar function will be held in our Perth office in late August.
 
Since the launch, we have received excellent feedback from recipients of the book, including existing judges and Chief Justices. KordaMentha would like to thank all of our guests for their attendance and interest in this publication. We hope that it can make a valuable contribution to the body of legal literature in this area.
